That means rejecting the chemicals others use to quickly boost fruit volume in favor of respecting eons of evolutionary design to simply let the mango tree be what it wants to be. As horticulturists, we support our trees.
High protein fruit fly lures mimic ripe fruit and act as a sustainable alternative to pesticides. We use recycled soda bottles and hang them in the canopy of the trees. This is one of several effective methods in a strong fly control program, a requisite for exporting fruit to the U.S.
By letting the trees do what they do naturally, we essentially take a holistic and probiotic way to grow mangos. This means the trees go through their natural cycles in harmony with the weather and seasons to develop, grow, and eventually produce fruit. There is nothing better for the long-term health of the trees and quality of the fruit.
Growing quality and wholesome mangos responsibly is not without its share of challenges, but we make an active effort to work with likeminded growers and customers who support our efforts and the communities we serve. Read on about some of the work we are doing and how our journey towards sustainable and responsible farming is progressing.
we recognize that there is always room for improvement with more opportunities to increase a positive impact on the environment.
The Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) is a widely used social audit around the world.
Our growers increasingly undergo SMETA audits to help us and our retail customers gain insights over the working conditions in the supply chain. These audits are performed by trained and approved Sedex affiliates and shared with members of the supply chain for transparency. Any findings that warrant corrective action are discussed and addressed with action plans that aim for continuous improvement.
These audits focus on reviewing ethical practices such as having zero tolerance for child and slave labor, adequate worker health and safety policies, fair wages, and overall fair treatment of people.
